Northrop Grumman's SiAW Program Under Scrutiny Amid Uncertainty
The US Air Force has launched a request for information (RFI) to gather industry input on the Northrop Grumman radar-killing missile program, which aims to deliver a munition with capabilities comparable to the Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW). The program, initially planned for delivery this year, is now uncertain, and the Air Force plans to field more than one missile with SiAW’s capabilities. The RFI seeks information on potential options for delivering the capability on faster timelines and at a lower cost. The Air Force has already awarded a $705 million contract to Northrop Grumman for the program, but the company’s timeline is uncertain. Industry participants L3Harris and Lockheed Martin previously declined to bid on the program, citing concerns over the fixed-price contract. The Air Force spokesperson stated that the RFI is a mechanism to gather the most up-to-date information directly from industry about options to build-up munitions capacity and potentially deliver the capability on faster timelines. The Air Force will consider a decision on production when development is complete. Breaking Defense.
