Global Airlines Grounded After Discovery Of Counterfeit Engine Components
A UK-based man has been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison for orchestrating a $52 million scam selling fake commercial aircraft parts to global airlines. The operation, run by AOG Technics Director Jose Alejandro Zamora Yrala, involved selling over 60,000 engine parts with forged Authorized Release Certificates. The scam was uncovered after an airline contacted Safran about a suspicious part, leading to a global grounding of commercial aircraft as airlines verified parts to avoid safety issues. The incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of the aircraft parts supply chain and the need for enhanced counterfeit detection measures. This was first reported by AeroTime.
