Singapore Strengthens Maritime Capabilities Amid Rising Tensions in Southeast Asia

Singapore has announced plans to acquire three Gulfstream maritime surveillance aircraft based on the G550 business jet, with Defense Minister Chan Chun Sing citing the need for enhanced capabilities in the maritime domain. The acquisition is part of a broader effort to strengthen Singapore’s defenses amid rising tensions in Southeast Asia. Breaking Defense reports that the aircraft will be equipped with advanced sensors and self-protection systems, similar to those used on IAI’s Oron special mission aircraft. The move comes as Singapore continues to invest in its maritime capabilities, including the commissioning of six Invincible-class submarines and the launch of four Offshore Patrol Vessels.
