European Allies Gain Leadership Roles In Operational Commands
NATO has announced a command restructuring plan that will see the US handing over leadership of two allied operational-level commands to European senior officers. The US will relinquish charge of Joint Force Command Norfolk to the United Kingdom and Joint Force Command Naples to Italy, while Germany and Poland will lead Joint Force Command Brunssum on a rotational basis. The changes, approved by allies last week, aim to give European Allies a more prominent role in leadership posts, with all three Joint Force Commands to be led by Europeans. The US will maintain leadership of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe post and lead all three theater component commands, according to a statement from the alliance, as reported by Breaking Defense.
