Artificial Intelligence Enhances Pilot Awareness In Flight Test
Lockheed Martin has successfully flight-tested an artificial intelligence feature on its F-35 Lightning fighter, designed to identify unknown contacts for the pilot. The test, conducted at Nellis Air Force base in Nevada, used a tactical AI model to resolve ID ambiguities among emitters, improving situational awareness and reducing pilot decision-making latency. The AI identification algorithm was compact enough to run on the F-35’s onboard computers. According to Breaking Defense, Lockheed developed the system, known as Project Overwatch, using Internal Research And Development funding.
