Rapid Expansion Poses Growing Challenge To Western Navies

China has rapidly expanded its nuclear-powered-submarine fleet, surpassing the US submarine production rate, according to a report by the International Institute of Strategic Studies. The report notes that China launched 10 submarines between 2021 and 2025, including the seventh and eighth Type 094 nuclear-armed ballistic-missile submarines. This increase in submarine production is attributed to an expansion at the Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co shipyard in Huludao. The report was published by Breaking Defense.
