Pilot Union Seeks Stronger Safety Measures After Midair Collision
The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) is criticizing the US House’s newly introduced ALERT Act, saying it does not go far enough to prevent midair collisions. ALPA argues that the bill’s lack of a clear mandate for ADS-B In technology with a cockpit traffic display falls short of the National Transportation Safety Board’s recommendations. The union is instead backing the Senate’s ROTOR Act, which it believes better addresses the need for enhanced safety measures. According to AeroTime, ALPA plans to work with lawmakers to refine the ALERT Act and implement the NTSB’s recommendations.
