European Aircraft Maker and Singapore Partner on Key Aerospace Technology

Airbus and Singapore have completed the certification of the Automatic Air to Air Refueling (A3R) capability of the Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT). The system was evaluated under day and night conditions and marks a world-first in aviation. According to Airbus Defence and Space CEO Mike Schoellhorn, this represents a key milestone in the continued development of the A330 MRTT platform. Breaking Defense reports that Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency contributed to system design reviews and improvements. The certification campaign was carried out in Singapore and Spain, with international interest in the A3R program noted, particularly from Canada.
