US Seeks to Boost Defense Industrial Base

New Initiative Aims to Revitalize Domestic Manufacturing Capacity

The US Department of War has announced plans to boost its defense industrial base, with a focus on revitalizing domestic manufacturing capacity. According to Congressman Ken Calvert, the US has fallen behind China in defense manufacturing, with China outproducing the US by a significant margin. To address this, the US plans to create a Civil Reserve Manufacturing Network (CRMN) to certify and qualify domestic companies for defense manufacturing. The CRMN will aim to remove red tape, build a national registry of manufacturing capabilities, and fund select factory equipment to adapt existing lines for rapid defense production. This initiative was first reported by Breaking Defense.
