Navy Considers Hybrid, Hedge, Golden, and Current Shipbuilding Plans
The US Navy is considering four different fleet designs for its future, including the current shipbuilding plan, a hybrid fleet, a hedge fleet, and a golden fleet. All options include the use of uncrewed surface vessels, which are seen as a key component of the Navy’s future force structure. The Navy Shipbuilding Plan projects a significant increase in the number of medium uncrewed surface vessels, from 39 in FY27 to 83 in FY31. This development was first reported by The Maritime Executive.
