British Army Upgrades Main Battle Tank Capability Amid Modernisation Programme

The British Army’s Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank has completed crewed live firing at an undisclosed UK Ministry of Defence training center, marking a key milestone in the £800 million ($1.08 billion) program. Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) produces the upgraded tank, which includes integration of advanced systems such as a 120mm smoothbore gun and active protection system. Manufacturing will begin once the tank’s performance is proven, with an Initial Operating Capability (IOC) expected in 2027.
