Qantas A380 Found with Tool in Left Wing

Australian Regulator Launches Investigation into Foreign Object Debris

An investigation has been launched by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) after a tool was discovered in the left wing of a Qantas Airbus A380-800 at Sydney Airport. The aircraft, registered VH-OQK, had flown from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and had completed two sectors prior to the discovery. The ATSB will examine maintenance records and interview involved parties as part of its inquiry. This incident follows a similar discovery of a foreign object in a Qantas A380 engine at Los Angeles International Airport in February 2024. The investigation was reported by AeroTime.
