Investigation Reveals Outdated Technology Contributed To Incident
The head of Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority has resigned following an investigation into an air traffic radio blackout earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on January 4, 2026, was caused by a combination of outdated technology and desynchronization of systems at the Athens Area Control Centre. The investigation found that the existing Voice Communication System and critical telecommunications infrastructure were based on outdated technology, with recommendations made to accelerate the transition to Voice over IP technology. The resignation and findings were first reported by AeroTime.
