France Tests Manual Drone Drops from Airbus A400M

Experimental Validation of Modeling for Transport-Launched Effectors

France has conducted a series of experimental trials assessing the feasibility of releasing drones from an Airbus A400M, using inert mock-ups and manual releases. The campaign was led by the French defense procurement agency, Direction générale de l’armement (DGA), in collaboration with DGA Techniques aérospatiales (DGA TA) and DGA Essais en vol (DGA EV). According to AeroTime, the tests were designed to validate simulations and physical parameters. The DGA plans to extend this approach to other platforms, including the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules and the CASA CN-235, with progressively refined simulations accompanying future flight test campaigns.
