Spanish Carrier Expands into Turkish Market Amid Growing Demand

Spain’s Directorate of Civil Aviation has assigned seven weekly frequencies to Air Europa to operate between Barcelona and Istanbul, marking a significant expansion into the Turkish market. This new route represents an entirely new vector for growth for the Spanish carrier, which traditionally focused on Western European and Latin American markets. The launch comes as Turkish Airlines’ acquisition of a 26% equity stake in Air Europa opens up commercial opportunities. With the potential to grow to 13 flights per week in the summer of 2026, this move could further solidify Air Europa’s position in the competitive transatlantic market.
