Spanish Navy Plans Modern Special Forces Design for Future Aircraft

The Spanish navy has outlined plans for a second batch of NH90 helicopters, which are expected to feature modern modifications including a French electro-optical targeting system. The new aircraft will be tailored to a special forces design and deliveries are planned between 2030 and 2032. Initial operating capability is expected in December 2026, with the fleet expected to deploy from surface vessels such as Strategic Protection Ships and Santa María-class frigates. Breaking Defense accepted travel and accommodation for the trip.
