Spain Orders 100 Airbus Helicopters Under National Modernization Plan

Spanish Armed Forces Upgrade with Latest Generation of Helicopters Amid Strategic Autonomy Push

Spain has formalized four contracts for 100 Airbus helicopters under the National Helicopter Plan announced in May 2025. The deal covers four different models intended for all three branches of the Spanish Armed Forces. According to Airbus, the aircraft will be used for advanced pilot training, light utility, and observation missions. The company estimates that the plan will generate more than 300 direct jobs over the next three years. Spain’s Secretary of State for Defence described the investment as strategic and aimed at strengthening national security while supporting Spain’s strategic autonomy in a key European defense sector.
