RAAF Modernizes Aircraft with Enhanced Communications and Navigation Capabilities
The Royal Australian Air Force has completed a major upgrade program for its 12 C-130J Hercules aircraft, bringing them up to the latest Block 8.1 configuration. The upgrades include critical improvements to aircraft systems, safety-critical software and hardware, and enhanced communications and navigation suites. Lockheed Martin performed the first aircraft upgrade in the US, while Airbus Australia Pacific modified the remaining 11 aircraft locally. CAE Australia completed corresponding upgrades to the C-130J full flight simulator. The RAAF has operated the C-130J since 1999, providing medium air mobility between the C-27J Spartan and C-17A Globemaster III.
