Navy Pursues HII's National Security Cutter for Frigate Replacement

Navy Secretary John Phelan announced the service will pursue HII’s Legend-class national security cutter design for a new frigate program. The program aims to replace the canceled Constellation-class frigate program and will be completed by 2028. HII will be the lead yard, but the Navy will execute a competition to find other yards for construction. The Navy’s Chief of Naval Operations emphasized the need for more capable blue water small combatants to close the gap in the fleet.
