Missile Defense Agency Expands Industry Participation in Layered Defense Initiative
The Missile Defense Agency has qualified 1,086 companies to compete for future awards under the SHIELD program, a $151 billion contract that aims to develop advanced technology for a future ’layered’ missile defense architecture. The program will run through December 2035 and will award contracts to specific task orders. The MDA received 2,463 responses to its solicitation and will work with the remaining offerors accordingly. This development may signal a significant shift in the defense industry’s focus on layered defense capabilities.
