Japan Airlines and JR East Combine High-Speed Rail and Air Cargo for Efficient Logistics
JALCARGO and JR East have announced a new transportation service that combines Japan’s Shinkansen high-speed rail network with Japan Airlines’ global air cargo operations. The service, named ‘JAL de Hako-byun,’ will begin operations on January 13, 2026, after a successful trial shipment from Sendai to Singapore in October 2025. The initiative aims to connect local Japanese producers with international markets through a streamlined one-stop logistics solution. The service will transport premium local products, including specialty seafood, and reduce transit times compared to conventional transport methods. The partnership also addresses sustainability and workforce challenges by utilizing rail transport to reduce driver shortages and lower carbon dioxide emissions.
