Boeing Integrates Critical Supplier of Airplane Structures
Boeing has completed its $4.7 billion acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems, reabsorbing a critical supplier of airplane structures for commercial jets and defense aircraft. The acquisition will integrate Spirit’s commercial and aftermarket operations under Boeing’s defense unit, with Spirit Defense functioning as a non-integrated subsidiary. The deal was approved by the Federal Trade Commission on Dec. 3, and will add approximately 15,000 employees across five sites. As a condition for its approval, the FTC ordered Boeing to divest its business with Airbus and Spirit’s aerostructures business in Malaysia to Composites Technology Research Malaysia.
