Austrian Airlines Retires Embraer E195 Fleet, Shifts to Airbus A320 Family

Austrian Airlines Embarks on Fleet Modernization with Airbus A320neo

Austrian Airlines has retired its first Embraer E195 as part of a fleet rollover that will see the carrier shift to only Airbus A320 family jets. Thirteen of the 17 Embraer aircraft will join sister airline Air Dolomiti, while four will be sold externally. Austrian Airlines will receive six new Airbus A320neo aircraft, with the first expected in summer 2026. The carrier’s fleet will be narrowed to Airbus A320 family aircraft and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners by 2028. This decision was made by COO Stefan-Kenan Scheib, who thanked the Austrian team for a ‘quick, safe, and straightforward’ fleet rollover. The Embraer E195 was first introduced in 2016 and will be phased out by the end of 2028. The airline’s fleet modernization is part of a broader effort to improve efficiency and passenger experience. The decision was first reported by AeroTime.
