Alaska Airlines Embarks on Pacific Northwest Expansion Amid Strong Demand

Alaska Airlines is further embracing its Pacific Northwest roots by announcing seven new nonstop routes from Anchorage and Portland for Summer 2026. The airline will offer 17 nonstop destinations from Anchorage to the Lower 48 and Hawai’i, including Anchorage-Boston, Boise, and Spokane. According to Alaska Airlines, both Anchorage and Portland are key to its long-term growth plans. The airline will provide easy connections from Portland to over 65 nonstop locations, including Hawai’i and Mexico. This expansion is part of Alaska Airlines’ efforts to strengthen its position in the Pacific Northwest. The airline’s Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning, Kirsten Amrine, stated that Anchorage and Portland are essential airports to the airline’s guests and us in our growing global network. The state of Alaska remains high on the wish list of travelers, especially in the summer months, and we’re excited to add new nonstops to get them there. Most of the new services will begin in mid-June 2026, with some starting as early as March 2026. Alaska Airlines will also boost capacity on current routes, adding a second weekly nonstop flight to Sacramento and San Diego. From June to mid-August 2026, Alaska Airlines will introduce three new nonstop routes from Anchorage, including a brand new twice-weekly service to Boise, a weekly long-haul flight to Boston that connects Alaska directly with New England, and a twice-weekly return service to Spokane, which has not been part of the network for the last 10 years. The Anchorage-Boston flight stands out as one of the longest in the schedule, designed to meet the needs of New England travelers heading west. Additionally, Alaska Airlines will boost capacity on current routes, adding a second weekly nonstop flight to both Sacramento and San Diego, as a result of strong demand. Portland International Airport (PDX) is set to experience a significant increase due to four new routes that enhance Alaska Airlines’ position as the top carrier in the area. Once all routes are operational, the airline will provide easy connections from Portland to over 65 nonstop locations, including Hawai’i and Mexico. The expansion in Portland will feature four new routes, starting with daily, year-round flights to Bellingham beginning in mid-March 2026, and followed by twice-daily, year-round service to Pasco starting in mid-June 2026. Additionally, Alaska Airlines will restart daily, year-round flights between Portland and Everett’s Paine Field on June 10, 2026, and a seasonal route to Jackson Hole will run twice a week from June to September 2026.
