Vietnam Airlines Launches First Direct Flights to Copenhagen

Vietnam Airlines has unveiled plans to launch the first-ever direct flight service between Ho Chi Minh City and Copenhagen, marking a significant expansion in connectivity between Southeast Asia and Scandinavia. The new route, commencing December 15, 2025, represents Vietnam’s inaugural nonstop air link to the Nordic region.

The service will operate three times weekly using the carrier’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet, with departures from Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings. After approximately 12 hours of flight time, aircraft arrive at Copenhagen Airport (CPH) early the following morning. Return flights depart Copenhagen at midday on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, arriving in Vietnam after midnight.

The Dreamliner configuration accommodates up to 300 passengers across three cabin classes: business class featuring reverse herringbone seats, premium economy, and economy. Vietnam Airlines projects the route will carry approximately 20,000 passengers during its inaugural year of operation.

For travelers, the route eliminates the necessity of connecting through traditional Asian hubs like Tokyo or Bangkok, or Middle Eastern stopover points that have historically complicated journeys between Vietnam and Scandinavia. Vietnamese passengers gain direct access to Northern Europe’s cultural attractions and natural phenomena, while Nordic travelers receive streamlined access to Vietnam’s beaches, culinary scene, and cultural heritage.

The route announcement coincided with Vietnam Airlines signing four partnership agreements with Danish organizations during a Vietnam-Europe tourism promotion event in Copenhagen. The carrier established collaborations with Greater Copenhagen Connected for tourism promotion initiatives, Copenhagen Airport for service enhancement, and tour operators Albatros Travel and Nordic Travel. Working alongside Vietnamese tourism company Saigontourist, these partners are developing comprehensive travel packages designed to attract Danish visitors to Vietnam while facilitating Vietnamese exploration of Scandinavian destinations.

“Copenhagen serves as a gateway to the wider Scandinavian region,” explained Pham Thi Nguyet, Vietnam Airlines’ Director of Marketing and Product Sales. She emphasized that the Danish capital’s geographical position makes it an ideal hub for accessing all four Nordic countries, extending the route’s value beyond Denmark itself.

Nguyen Tien Hoang, who oversees Vietnam Airlines’ France and Europe operations, characterized the new service as a strategic component of the carrier’s European network. “Copenhagen will be an important gateway to connect the economy, culture and politics between Vietnam and destinations in Northern Europe,” he stated.

The launch represents another milestone in Vietnam Airlines’ international expansion and demonstrates growing demand for direct connectivity between Asia Pacific and Northern Europe. As airlines continue rebuilding and expanding international networks following pandemic-era contractions, routes like Ho Chi Minh City-Copenhagen reflect evolving passenger preferences for convenient, nonstop long-haul services.

The new service positions Vietnam Airlines to compete more effectively in the Vietnam-Europe market while supporting broader economic and cultural exchange between the regions. With tourism partnerships already in place and promotional efforts underway, the carrier appears positioned to maximize the route’s commercial potential from launch day.
