Joby Aviation Expands Technology Roadmap with Hybrid Concept

Joby Aviation has completed the first flight of its hybrid turbine-electric demonstrator aircraft, marking a significant expansion of its technology roadmap. The aircraft integrates a hybrid powertrain into its existing electric VTOL platform and is equipped with SuperPilot autonomous flight technology. According to Joby, the addition of the turbine generator will deliver greater range and payload capability. The company plans to deploy the hybrid platform for longer-range air-taxi operations as well as potential sales to defense customers. This development comes just three months after the company first revealed its hybrid concept and a new partnership with L3Harris Technologies.
