Joby Aviation Partners with L3Harris to Bring Autonomous eVTOL Technology to the US Military
Joby Aviation has successfully flown a demonstrator of a new hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, which it plans to pitch to military customers through an agreement with L3Harris. The aircraft, based on Joby’s S4 platform, features a gas turbine hybrid powertrain for increased range. The US military is seeking eVTOL platforms for austere environments, and Joby’s technology may address these needs. The partnership with L3Harris signals a potential for dual-use technology to benefit both defense and commercial applications. This announcement comes ahead of the Dubai Airshow, where both Joby and L3Harris are expected to showcase their eVTOL capabilities. According to Joby, the company’s founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt, the goal is to deliver new technology to the US military more quickly and cost-efficiently than in the past.
