Berlin Charts Course for Independent Defensive, Offensive Capabilities in Space

Germany has released its first-ever national security space strategy, which envisions a plethora of new military capabilities to boost Berlin’s capacity to act independently in space. The initiative draws heavily on lessons from Ukraine and aims to enhance Germany’s deterrence and defense capabilities as well as those of NATO Allies and European partners. According to Breaking Defense, the German Foreign and Defense Ministries have laid out surprising detail on the government’s priorities across sectors, including defense, and how they will be implemented over the next several years. The strategy also includes plans for satellite-based missile detection and robust command and control systems.
