Berlin Boosts Defense Spending Amid Russia's War on Ukraine

Germany is set to acquire 20 additional Airbus H145M helicopters worth €931 million ($1 billion) as part of its military modernization efforts. The funding proposal will be presented to the Bundestag’s budget committee in 2026. The aircraft are expected to be delivered over two years starting in 2027, with deliveries beginning in November 2024. This acquisition is financed through Germany’s €100 billion special defense fund created to accelerate modernization under the Zeitenwende policy.
