Army Selects Sites for Small Nuclear Reactors on Military Bases

Army Deploys Microreactors for Power Generation on Domestic Installations

The Defense Innovation Unit and the Army have released a solicitation for commercially-made ‘advanced nuclear power technologies’ and selected nine sites for ‘initial deployment’ for microreactors. The program aims to stand up commercial nuclear microreactors at domestic military bases over the next few years. The Army has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the DIU for its Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO) process and Other Transaction Authority (OTA) to award vendors for the Janus Program. The initial Area of Interest (AOI) posting is due on Dec. 15, and vendors are encouraged to use the ‘first of a kind’ and ‘second of a kind’ approaches in their proposals.
