Firefly Aerospace Wins Contract for Responsive On-Orbit Mission with Elytra Spacecraft

Firefly Aerospace to Perform On-Demand Orbital Maneuvers with Elytra for US DoD

Firefly Aerospace has been awarded a contract to perform a responsive on-orbit mission with its Elytra spacecraft in support of the US Department of Defense’s DIU Sinequone Project. The mission will utilize Elytra’s Elytra Dawn configuration to perform space domain awareness operations in low Earth orbit. Firefly’s CEO, Jason Kim, stated that the company has proven its ability to rapidly and reliably launch, land, and operate in space. The mission is set to launch as early as 2027. This contract follows Firefly’s initial trade studies completed for the DIU in 2024 and the recent $8.2 million grant from the Texas Space Commission to expand its spacecraft production capabilities.
