Texas Space Commission Awards Firefly Aerospace for Spacecraft Manufacturing Expansion
Firefly Aerospace has been awarded an $8.2 million grant from the Texas Space Commission to expand its spacecraft manufacturing capabilities in Central Texas. The funding will support workforce development, STEM outreach, and internship opportunities, as well as critical infrastructure improvements and upgraded IT infrastructure. The grant is part of the Space Exploration and Aeronautics Research Fund (SEARF), which supports emerging spaceflight technologies and workforce training. Firefly Aerospace plans to use the funding to create 50 new jobs and expand its production of Blue Ghost lunar landers and Elytra orbital vehicles. The facility expansion is expected to be completed by Q4 2025. Firefly Aerospace is an end-to-end responsive space company with launch, lunar, and on-orbit services.
