End-to-End Space Transportation Company Joins SDA's Hybrid Acquisition for Proliferated LEO Program
Firefly Aerospace, an end-to-end space transportation company, has been selected as a vendor for the US Department of Defense’s Space Development Agency’s Hybrid Acquisition for Proliferated LEO (HALO) program. Firefly is now eligible to support rapid, end-to-end demonstration missions for SDA’s military satellites utilizing its Elytra orbital vehicles. The company’s first Elytra mission is scheduled to launch in the coming months, further validating its capabilities. Firefly is a portfolio company of AE Industrial Partners and is headquartered in central Texas. The HALO program was established to enable fast and flexible contracting mechanisms for demonstration and experimentation missions. SDA Director Derek Tournear stated that the program aims to build a broader base of vendors that can compete for work on operational layers of future tranches. Firefly’s selection may signal a growing trend towards end-to-end space transportation services, which could have implications for the space industry’s future development.
