French Aerospace Giant Expands Production of Critical Navigation Equipment
Safran has announced plans to invest €120 million in expanding the production of hemispherical resonator gyroscope (HRG) navigation sensors at its Montlucon facility. The investment will enable the company to triple its annual HRG output from 10,000 units to 30,000 units by 2032. HRGs are used in navigation systems for aircraft, vessels, and defense platforms, allowing them to navigate accurately without relying on satellite-based systems like GPS. The expansion is part of Safran’s wider €1.4 billion industrial expansion program, aimed at increasing manufacturing capacity across key aerospace and defense technologies.
