Space Transportation Company Prepares for December 20 Launch

Firefly Aerospace is preparing to launch its Alpha FLTA004 Fly the Lightning mission, which will deploy an Electronically Steered Antenna (ESA) payload developed by Lockheed Martin. The mission aims to demonstrate rapid delivery of on-orbit capabilities for U.S. warfighters and further test responsive space operations. Firefly’s CEO Bill Weber stated that the team is utilizing lessons from its VICTUS NOX mission to fundamentally change how quickly customers can process their payloads and launch assets to space. The launch is being observed by members of the U.S. Space Force to inform future missions and requirements for repeatable on-demand launch capabilities.
