Ecommerce Giant Expands Satellite Internet Ambitions
Amazon has announced its acquisition of Globalstar, a satellite company, for $11.57 billion. The deal includes Globalstar’s network of low-Earth-orbit satellites and its licensed access to wireless spectrums, enabling direct-to-device communication. Amazon has also partnered with Apple to provide satellite connectivity for iPhones and Apple Watches. The acquisition is part of Amazon’s Project Leo initiative, aiming to build a fleet of thousands of satellites for global internet connectivity. This move was reported by WIRED.
