Arctic Radar System To Enhance North Atlantic Surveillance
BAE Systems Australia has been awarded a $1.7 billion contract to deliver an Arctic over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) system to Canada, based on technologies applied in the Australian Defence Force’s Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN). The system, known as A-OTHR, will enhance early warning and surveillance in the North Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific, and is a key component of Canada’s efforts to modernise NORAD. Work under the contract is scheduled to begin on 1 July, with initial operational capability planned for December 2029. This development was first reported by Janes.
