Backers Defend Value Against Post-Quantum Cryptography Alternatives
The Eagle-1 quantum key distribution satellite, part of the EU Quantum Communications Infrastructure program, has been delayed again and is now expected to launch in late 2027 or early 2028. Despite the delay, backers of the project are defending its value, arguing that it provides a necessary layer of security for sensitive communications that post-quantum cryptography cannot match. The European Commission is contributing funding to the project through its Horizon Europe and in-orbit demonstration programs. This development was first reported by Space Intel Report.
