TSA Replaces ID Verification Fee with $45 Confirm.ID Charge
The TSA has announced a significant update to its identity verification process at airport security checkpoints. Beginning February 1, 2026, travelers arriving without REAL ID-compliant identification will be directed to a new paid service called TSA Confirm.ID, carrying a $45 fee for a 10-day travel window. This represents a revision to an previously announced $18 fee structure. The service uses biographic and biometric data to verify traveler identities in real-time. While optional, the fee reflects costs associated with technology infrastructure and program administration. TSA notes that over 94% of passengers already present acceptable identification.
