Korean Air to Use Plant-Based Meal Containers by 2026 for Sustainability
Korean Air is replacing traditional plastic meal containers with plant-based packaging made from agricultural waste by 2026. The South Korean carrier will phase in containers manufactured from straw, sugarcane, and bamboo starting December 2025, with full network implementation expected by year-end 2026. The new packaging is anticipated to reduce associated carbon emissions by approximately 60% while maintaining heat resistance and durability comparable to conventional plastics. This initiative aligns with the airline’s broader sustainability strategy and responds to industry-wide pressure to minimize environmental impact.
