Indian Navy to Receive First Rafale M Jets by 2029: Modernization Milestone
The Indian Navy will receive its first four Rafale M carrier-based fighters by 2029, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi announced, marking a significant modernization of India’s naval aviation. The €7.4 billion order for 26 aircraft—including 22 single-seat fighters and four twin-seat trainers—will replace the aging MiG-29K fleet. The Rafale M’s proven STOBAR compatibility, demonstrated during 2022 trials at India’s Shore Based Test Facility, was decisive in its selection. Deliveries will continue through 2030-2031, with the Indian Air Force’s existing Rafale infrastructure supporting pilot training and mission-systems integration.
