France’s Navy has received the final Dassault-Breguet Atlantique 2 maritime patrol aircraft upgraded to Standard 6 configuration, as part of a modernization effort designed to keep the fleet operational into the next decade. The handover took place on February 17, 2026, when France’s defense procurement agency, the DGA, delivered the aircraft to the Marine nationale. According to Breaking Defense reports, the ATL2 was initially slated for replacement under the Franco-German Maritime Airborne Warfare System (MAWS) program but was canceled due to a US notification of a potential sale of Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft to Germany. France has since shifted to a national ‘Patmar’ replacement effort, with an Airbus-led A321XLR-based concept selected as the baseline for further definition and risk-reduction work.
