Airbus to Build Oman's First High-Capacity Communications Satellite
Oman is taking a significant leap forward in its space ambitions with the signing of a landmark agreement with Airbus Defence and Space to develop OMANSAT-1, the country’s first high-capacity communications satellite. The satellite will provide comprehensive communications coverage across Oman, including its territorial waters, while extending services to the broader Middle East, East Africa, and Asia regions. Built on Airbus’ advanced OneSat platform, OMANSAT-1 will feature full digital flexibility, allowing for in-orbit reconfiguration to adapt to evolving communications needs. The project represents a cornerstone of Oman’s digital sovereignty strategy and aligns with the nation’s Vision 2040 development goals. Space Communications Technologies SPC, owned by the Oman Investment Authority, will operate the satellite and collaborate with Airbus throughout the development and launch phases, while also building crucial national expertise in space technologies.
