Airbus A320s Return to Service After Urgent Software Fixes
Most of the world’s A320 aircraft have returned to service following urgent software fixes ordered by European aviation regulators. The EASA Emergency Airworthiness Directive, issued November 28, required operators to replace or update flight-control computers vulnerable to solar flare-induced data corruption. Airbus reported fixes applied to over 5,000 of approximately 6,000 affected jets within 24 hours. While major carriers like Lufthansa avoided significant disruptions, some airlines including Avianca reported extended operational challenges. The rapid industry response demonstrates aviation’s coordinated approach to safety-critical issues.
