Austrian Airlines abruptly terminated its wet lease contract with Braathens Regional Airlines on December 15, 2025, citing operational issues. According to Austrian Airlines, Braathens failed to meet operational standards required by the Lufthansa Group.

Austrian Airlines has retired its first Embraer E195, marking the beginning of a fleet rollover that will see the carrier transition to Airbus A320 family jets. The airline plans to sell four of the remaining 17 aircraft externally and deploy six new A320neo aircraft starting in summer 2026.
